Detecting Volcanoes but not Jesus’ Appearance

In the September 2010 issue of the well known National Geographic Magazine there was an article entitled “An explosive Wager”. We have taken the time to examine this strange yet real form of gambling now available around the world to those who would care to risk a bet on the world’s next major volcanic eruption.

A quote from the article explains how some of the wagering works. “Probabilities are calculated using the Volcanic Explosivity Index—the scale, ranging from zero (nonexplosive) to eight (mega colossal), that scientists use to rank eruption severity. The first volcano to hit level three, with plumes at least two miles high, will prompt payouts.”

This current form of gambling is another display showing the lack of compassion and iniquity that rest in the heart of man. Property loss, injury and death are often results following a major eruption of any volcano and yet there are some who are callous and greedy enough to overlook this for the chance to make some money. This only adds more support to the true words spoken by Jesus when asked by his disciples “…Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” and among many signs given in Jesus’ response was “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”

Jesus rebuked some smart, educated, religious, and wise men of the world for not bothering to discern the times in which they were living. Read here from the gospel of Matthew “The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”

In these times much remains the same. Today men of the world and much of the “church” are no less in need of the same firm rebuke given by Jesus for using their ability to read sky or earth and sciences of all sorts and yet are still ignoring the sure signs given to all the world over the last two millennia that Jesus is appearing is SOON !
