Choices…
Christian Spirit Magazine October 1992 – It is a blasphemy, this movement in the “world” that is working overtime to redefine the very nature of Man’s existence.
This demonically inspired vision of life is trying to turn the world of simple right and wrong upside down. Under the banner of love, tolerance, and “a kinder, gentler way”, this leading edge of humanism insists that “choice” be lifted up as Man’s only true god.
Direct from the Pit itself; this movement is a master work of the Angel of Light. It sounds like love; looks like love, but is sin, a devouring wolf dressed in sheep’s Clothing. This monster’s ungodly doctrine contends that the wall which stands’ between Mankind and happiness is none other than the ancient notions of right and wrong. This popular gospel rests on the illogic that if a choice exists then simply by virtue of its existence it must be right for some people, and that the only real evil lies in not being allowed to make a choice without fear of condemnation or conviction.
In order to fit its square pegs into round holes those who seek to lift up and worship this false god called “freedom of choice” are working everywhere and anywhere to redefine such universally true things as: the family, nature and sex, man and woman, love and hate, and even God – as if each person can get away with molding his Creator into his own perverse image and stamp it with the good housekeeping seal of approval by a smile, a handshake, and a few obligatory words about tolerance and brotherhood.
Public schools, college campuses, the media, the voice on the street, the politicians, and world leaders are either espousing this gospel or caving into its pressure. The Jingo of this reworked world is spreading. Soon, under the sheer weight of the avalanche of its “in your face” voice, it will be fully accepted as truth. Already it is an accepted fact, as incredibly stupid and viciously blasphemous as it is, that men have been wrongly given women’s bodies at birth, and girls walk around from their youth befuddled and insane because they have been trapped in a little boy’s body. The conclusion is unavoidable: these poor people have been shortchanged by God’s blunder, they were supposed to get a lady’s body but God must have run short on them that day and was forced to give them a makeshift male body.
Christians who have the sense to sneer at such total B.S. are being tagged as intolerant, unloving – even Nazi. Suddenly those who reason that an unnatural act and its lame excuses are still sin are labeled the sick ones. The world has even coined a name for our “illness”, we are homophobic. Willing to call a spade a spade, we now have a dreadful problem a phobia. We are overtaken with inordinate fear, we have hallucinations, we see things that aren’t really there, our judgments are illusion.
We need the treatment, psychiatric help, and counseling. —- Right!!!! Talk about turning things upside down. But it is an incredible sign of the times that the world is getting away with such sorcery.
Those who claim to love Mankind, but really love sin, demand, like spoiled kids, that right and wrong is relative and just a matter of personal choice. The only wrong is not being freely given a choice to do what they want and then without conscience making whatever choice they feel like making.
But Christians true to the Gospel will make this fundamental assertion in their personal lives and stand firm on its ground: Just because God gave Man the right to choose does not mean everything Man chooses is right.
…Consequences
Newton’s Law – “For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction” – not only applies in the physical world but can be applied in the spiritual realm as well. For every choice and accompanying action there is an accompanying set of consequences, a set of necessary results which will certainly follow. The purest expression of this spiritual Newton’s Law is in the Bible: “You reap what you sow.” The Baby Boomers stole an eastern religious term and dubbed it karma. Today’s pop phrase is: “What goes around comes around.” No matter how much Man cries and moans, no matter how much rationale the smart people apply, no matter how many brilliant political speeches are made, no matter how many laws are passed allowing and excusing our stupid choices, we will reap the harvest according to the choices we have made, and “with God there is no respect of persons”.
We discover at a very early age that our decisions carry with them natural repercussions. If we rebel in school we are isolated and punished, if we don’t do the dishes we get in trouble, if we walk in front of a moving car we get hurt, if we don’t wear a protective cup while playing a sport we can be disabled.
God has warned Man about making the right choices from the very beginning. The first lesson in the Bible is the greatest and most classic lesson about choice and the fallout that comes when we make the wrong decision. Adam and Eve opted for knowledge of good and evil instead of God’s loving care. (The fundamental sin of everyone who has ever lived, save Jesus.)
The second lesson of right and wrong in the Scriptures teaches the folly of recklessly making our own choices. Cain and Abel knew the proper sacrifices God had required of Man, but Cain chose his own way and when God rejected him and accepted Abel because of his obedience, Cain chose to give in to sin and slew his brother. The consequences? He was given the Mark of Cain and made an outcast.
So we are taught that merely having a choice is far from salvation, it is only the test of life, the choices we make determine our fate. If I choose to be a murderer like Cain am I exonerated from my crime simply because I claim my upbringing, my environment, or some circumstance of my life, violated my peace and happiness, and when presented with a choice I just did what I wanted to do because I was a victim or because it felt good.
We must reap the harvest of our actions – good or bad- and only Christ’s shed blood in our behalf can cover our murders, and hatreds, and lies, and perversions, and give us forgiveness for them. Only Christ can help us make the right choices.
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:|
For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” 1Tim 4:1-5
