Chile: At The Heart of Ten Thousand 4.0 Earthquakes Annually
The huge earthquake of magnitude 8.2 that struck 60 miles off northern Chile on April 1st, caused a tsunami and killed at least six people. Waves of almost 7 feet (2.1m) hit the Chilean coast and caused widespread power outages, fires, airport damage and landslides that blocked roads. The quake also allowed the escape of 300 women inmates at a prison in the city, Iquique. Aftershocks ranging between 7.6 to 4.6 have steadily occurred in the following days. Part of the ongoing parade of fulfilled prophecy from Matthew 24:7, Luke 21:11 and Mark 13:8 about earthquakes in diverse places in the end times.
Chile is home to the largest ever recorded earthquake in history. In 1960 the ‘Great Chilean Earthquake’ of 9.5 killed thousands and sent a damaging tsunami to Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, Australia and the US West Coast.
And yet, scientists are not even saying this is the big one. Not by a long shot. This mountainous country resides in the most seismically active area of the globe. The area is called the “ring of fire” and has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes. About 90% of the world’s earthquakes and 81% of the world’s largest earthquakes occur along this ring that coincides roughly with the borders of the Pacific Ocean.
It is not hard to understand that End-times prophecy is being fulfilled on a regular and daily basis before all our eyes and proving that the Word of God is true. Jesus gave an answer to all who would listen when his disciples asked him “…what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus’ reply was very detailed and clear. Among many spoken signs are: “there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” Matt. 24:7
If we are to act wisely, then what are we to do about such knowledge of the signs of Jesus soon return? We would suggest doing as He instructed. “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:28.
Look upward not downward upon worldly and unholy endeavors that lead farther and farther away from God but look up to heaven where the Father and Jesus abide and seek Him to have your heart become fixed on His holy and eternal works that are separated from temporal worldly and carnal affairs.
Very often great mercy is mingled in God’s judgments as can be seen with the reported 300 women inmates escaping prison as a result of the earthquake. It may be symbolic of the desire of God to have as many as would receive His invitation have an avenue opened for them to flee from their spiritual prisons. The ground beneath one’s feet may need to be shaken so that God can shake the person in order to give them a new life.
“And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.” Luke 21:34
What is that day which is fast approaching and will come upon those who are overcharged with the cares of this life? Jesus calls it “the end”, “the days of vengeance” “the kingdom of God that is near”.
So as we quickly and easily look around the globe today we see increasing reports of earthquakes in all corners and crevices of the globe. These are signs among the Signs of Christ’s soon return which are intended to build our faith in God; faith that he exists; faith that He is actively involved in the happenings of the world and the lives of men; faith that He will draw out of the world to himself the poor in spirit, the brokenhearted, those captive to the forces of sin, the spiritually blind and those that have been bruised by the evils of this life.
God has announced through Biblical prophecy what will happen so we may realize the importance of our response to His invitation. The cry of His invitation goes out to all who will hear His voice as He makes a plea to come to Him and let Him be your God. “But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you”. Jer. 7:23
Come to Jesus, that all may be well and you can have eternal life. And Jesus promised to His own; “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
